On a crisp fall morning in Fort Stewart, Georgia, our first frolic in handmade crafts began when Christopher went to Wal-Mart for some Fiskars scissors and Sophia The First ribbon. A few hours later, we had our first handmade hairbow, all because we were looking for a way to lower our cost of raising stylish little girls. Back then we called our self Gunter Ever After, a play on our last name and love for the happiest place on earth.

Fast forward to December of 2019, we bought our first Cricut machine, started focusing on our little side hustle. We decided to change our name to something that we felt embodied us as a military family owned small business. We change our name to Frappuccinos and Freedom, representing my love for coffee, and the freedom our family was making sacrifices for. However, we could not of predicted how much our business would change over the next year.

The pandemic certainly made us question whether we should keep the name freedom in our name. Then one day, when we were discussing our upcoming PCS to Fort Drum, Christopher had made a joke, about calling our future home "CROOKED TAIL CABIN". After our dog Belle's crooked tail, and then the name change just kind of clicked. Crooked Tail Co. era had begun.

In May of 2022, Rhonda Foote, the owner of Rhonda's Footeworks in Watertown, New York reached out to us to alter some dance costumes for their upcoming recital. About a month later, we were going through one of toughest times as a family, and spending many days in the hospital. Heather begun listening to music and drawing costumes as away to cope with the traumatic experiences she was going through and our couture costumes blossomed from there.

Hey Hey! It's Gameday! Our love for game days, school spirit, dance and cheerleading lead us to create Gameday in the Summer of 2022. Our first Gameday product was custom designed scrunchies for a middle school cheer team in Aubrey, Texas. Gameday continues to grow, and has lead us to make friends all over the country who love our spirit for their teams.

Shortly after, two of our dogs, crossed the rainbow bridge, we reached out to one of artist to commission a revised logo for Crooked Tail Co. with the dog in the logo looking up to two stars. The idea was inspired by firefly Lou, joining Evangeline in the movie The Princess and The Frog. Yet, do to confusion in what we do as a company we decided to change our name one final time. Second Star Inc. was here to stay and grow.

Over the next couple of years Crooked Tail Athletics would change to Second Star Darling to Second Star Modiste to eventually settling on just The Modiste with the launch of The Modiste Is In on Patreon in 2025.

Do you think can? Those are the four words that brought Ma Belle Evangeline to reality. We were dealing with some famous lake effect snow in Fort Drum, when a repeat client reached out to us to embroider her wedding dress, which then expanded into us embroidering the wedding dress, and the grooms jacket. Then our love for creating personalize wedding attire bloomed from there.

Ahoy Matey! Jolly Roger Supply was created to help our dance and cheer friends lower the cost of their pro shop. Well, that is the idea that lead to the creation of Jolly Roger Supply. If we could show owners how to DIY merch by ordering transfers, which made team pride affordable again.

She's in her back to Jesus era! Darling Jane is our faith based line of graphic tees and gifts. Life changes, happen, and sometimes we need faith to get through them. Darling Jane was inspired by our final move to Christopher's hometown of Columbia, South Carolina.

What's you niche? Honestly, do we really have one? Absolutely not, we just love to create unique things. At the beginning of 2025, we decided to divide every niche into their own line thus, handmade was created to note products 100% handmade from start to finish.

Changing of the tides, leads to creating another space of creativity. Skull Rock Trading opened April 30, 2025, on Etsy and the Second Star Inc. website. This digital download brand includes all sorts of paper designs from business stickers to party invitations this line was designed for the DIYer in mind.
